A fact finding mission was carried out in Colombia by Appelglobal together with Jorge Contreras Cardeno a native Colombian presently living in Denmark.

The small-scale gold mining is vastly different her from most other countries. In most countries the ore is processed near the mine.

In Colombia ore is carried on truck or horseback to town for processing. The reason is that gold ore is too heavy to steal en route to town. In town it is easier to protect the recovered gold.
