Sources of Growth – World Bank project awarded to Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland and carried out by Peter Appel.

Survey of which mineral resources could over a time period of 10 to 20 years provide a governmental revenue which could finance free schooling for the Laotian children. The project was carried out together with World Bank personnel and with support of the Geological Survey of Lao PDR.

The most obvious candidates were determined to be gold mines like the one in South Laos and a large potential potash deposit occurring at shallow depth on either side of the border to Thailand.

The project was carried out in 2004.  A report is obtainable from World Bank.
