Promotion of mineral potential in Yemen at mining conventions in Canada and Cape Town.

The project was financed by World Bank and carried out by Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland in close cooperation with Geological Survey & Mineral Resource Board (GSMRB) in Sanaa. It was carried out in 2008 and 2009.

The project comprised visits to selected mineral occurrences including a copper prospect out of Sanaa which was drilled by a British company. Together with geologists from the Survey a number of factsheets describing promising prospects within industrial and metalliferous minerals were made for the mining convention as was large poster depicting the mineral potential of Yemen.

One of the most promising discoveries made during the project was the wealth of gemstones in the country. In an area not far from Aden good quality aquamarines and rubies were discovered. Unfortunately detailed field investigations were not possible due to local unrest.
